Whitchurch Lane · Canons Park · Edgware
Half of Europe,
under one roof.
A proper food shop for a neighbourhood that cooks. A butchery that is 100% halal certified, a bakery running from bloomers to sesame simit, market-fresh fruit and veg out front — and aisles that read like a map of the continent.
The shop
Run by people who
actually cook.
Mega Food Centre opened on Whitchurch Lane because Canons Park deserved somewhere that stocked the whole shopping list — the British basics and the things you used to have to drive across London for.
One trolley takes you from Warburtons and Tetley to Bodrum sunflower oil, Polish kabanosy, Romanian măsline, Greek olive oil in five-litre tins and a wall of Turkish leaf tea. The fruit and veg is bought for the counter, not for a warehouse, so it turns over quickly and it is priced by the kilo rather than by the packet.
Behind it all is a service butchery that is 100% halal certified, and a bakery that keeps going through the day rather than selling out by nine.

Four counters
Everything under one blue awning.
Butchery, bakery, produce and off licence — each with someone behind it who knows the stock.

Halal Butchery
A full service counter, 100% halal certified — lamb, mutton, beef and poultry cut to order while you carry on with the rest of the shop.

The Bakery
Bread through the day, sesame simit still warm in the basket, and a baklava case that does rather a lot of damage on a Saturday.

Fruit, Veg & World Food
Market-fresh produce out front; inside, aisle after aisle of Turkish, Polish, Romanian, Greek, Middle Eastern and British favourites.

Off Licence & Everyday
Beers, wines and spirits, the newsagent essentials, and a household aisle stocked with the European brands you grew up with.

The butchery
Halal, without an asterisk.
The counter is 100% halal certified and only halal meat is handled at it — no shared boards, no shared blocks, no small print. The certificate is on the wall, and you are very welcome to read it.
- Lamb, mutton, beef, veal and poultry, cut and minced to order.
- Whole lamb, party trays and bulk orders with a day's notice.
- Marinated kebab, şiş and chops made up fresh through the day.
- Priced by the kilo, trimmed the way you ask for it.
Certified, and checked
Certification is displayed at the counter. If you would like to see the paperwork before you buy, just ask — nobody here minds the question.
